Camper Restoration and Custom Build Outs

Since the Vintage Surfari Wagons’ journey began back in 2005, we have been performing VW camper restoration for our own rental fleet, as well as for private enthusiasts. We’ve lost track of how many times we’ve rented to folks that have ended up buying their own buses; many of them have turned to us for our vintage VW restoration expertise and our bespoke interiors. In fact, one of our projects was filmed for the Travel Channel and memorialized in an episode entitled ‘Vantastic’. RV and #vanlife rigs are a part of our repertoire as well.

What can we tell you? Well, we’d have to say that there’s nothing we can’t tackle… if we don’t have a part, we make the part and if a tool doesn’t exist to make the part, then we make the tool so we can make the part!

Numerous times we have completely torn apart a van, prepped it for paint and body, performed rust remediation, undercoated it, cleaned every single nut and bolt and repainted it, reupholstered and rebuilt seating and cushions, fashioned custom curtains and tie backs, replaced flooring with all sorts of materials, rebuilt engines, transmissions, custom made camper cabinets, plumbing components and water tanks, installed new fridges, solar systems and propex heaters… and a whole lot more! Get the picture?

The following are galleries of VW camper restoration projects that Vintage Surfari Wagons has had the pleasure to design and execute on behalf of private VW and RV owners.

Please note that complete custom builds (custom ‘one off’ interiors, full mechanical restoration, paint/body work) can easily run into the 2-3 year project completion range and they typically range between $80 - $150k. It just depends on what we are tackling. A new tent for your pop-top is 2K + materials.
